1. Novel Technologies for Prevention, Detection, Assessment and Management of Animal Health and Welfare
We have been developing biosensors and on-field detection kits for agricultural pathogens for the past 5 years. While most of our work to date has focused on crop diseases, the technology is readily applicable to other systems and we are already planning to move into veterinary applications. Therefore we would be interested in joining a consortium interested in developing cost-effective field test kits. We also have contacts with major veterinary departments and companies in Turkey who can provide samples and opportunities to carry out application tests in a realistic environment.
As a second area of expertise, we have extensive experience in genomics and metagenomics, and would be interested in contributing to the development of methods to monitor animal health using genomic analysis of the animal and/or its microbiome.
SUNUM was established in 2010 through a US $35m investment from the Turkish Ministry of Development and the Sabanci foundation, with the vision of being an exemplary reference center for nanotechnology. After a highly competitive screening process, in 2017 it was selected to be one of 4 national research infrastructure facilities. Our mission is to be a global platform that provides an interface between fundamental nanoscience research and the needs of industrial partners both in Türkiye and abroad.
