To investigate in the pathogenesis of relevant diseases of ruminants caused by intracelular pathogens, such as paratuberculosis, toxoplasmosis, maedi visna or neosporosis.
Our main expertise is on pathology, ex vivo investigation of monocyte/macrophage and neutrophils, and in vive experimental models for the above mentioned diseases.
In our institute we have animal facilities designed for the investigation with in vivo experimental models based in small ruminants.
The Instituto de Ganadería de Montaña (IGM) is a collaborative institution between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of León, established in 2008. The IGM's primary mission is to generate essential scientific knowledge to enhance the sustainability of ruminant livestock farming through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing health, nutrition, and production. The institute focuses on researching the health, nutrition, and production of small ruminants, aiming to improve current production systems in terms of productivity, feed efficiency, animal health and welfare, environmental impact, and product quality. Additionally, the IGM offers advisory services related to livestock systems and land use.
