My main line of research is the investigation of the pathogenesis of relevant ruminant diseases caused by intracelular pathogens, both in bovine (i.e. paratuberculosis, neosporosis, ...) or small ruminants (i.e. paratuiberculosis, small ruminants lentiviruses, toxoplasmosis, neosporosis, ...).
Our expertises is centered on pathology and ex vivo studies on monocytes and neutrophils. We have animal facilities to perform experimental studies based on small ruminant experimental models based in sheep or goats.
The Instituto de Ganadería de Montaña (IGM) is a collaborative institution between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of León, established in 2008. The IGM's primary mission is to generate essential scientific knowledge to enhance the sustainability of ruminant livestock farming through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing health, nutrition, and production. The institute focuses on researching the health, nutrition, and production of small ruminants, aiming to improve current production systems in terms of productivity, feed efficiency, animal health and welfare, environmental impact, and product quality. Additionally, the IGM offers advisory services related to livestock systems and land use.
