bacterial translocation, selective respiratory droplets detection, sensorics development
1. Novel Technologies for Prevention, Detection, Assessment and Management of Animal Health and Welfare
We offer partnership on prevention of airborne diseases in farm animals through monitoring of respiratory droplets in air. We have developed the first sensor for selective detection and counting of potentially infected respiratory droplets in air, which could cause a spread of respiratory diseases. The instrument was tested in laboratory, but not in a stable. We search for a partnership for tests with livestock, preferably cattle and pigs due to larger air aerosol variation, and for further development of the instrument for use in prevention of respiratory diseases of animals.
Jozef Stefan Institute is renowned scientific institute, and presents the largest scientific community in Slovenia. The research topics covered are widespread, including Environment, Physics, Chemistry, Material Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Our group focuses on health preservation from airborne threats, either inorganic – particle pollutant – or organic – potentially infected aerosol droplets. In this respect, we are collaborating with Slovenian National Environmental Agency in establishing countrywide monitoring network of ultrafine particles, and have developed the first of its kind respiratory droplet counter in response to recent COVID-19 crisis.
