2. Fundamental Research for Animal Health and Welfare
We have experience in cultivating epithelial, primordial germ and stem cells in primary culture systems. We seek to develop cell lines of oviduct-secreting cells in chickens. Test the transgenesis of these cells with different constructs of the desired protein f.i. antibody, will provide a platform for "proof of concept" projects of any protein of pharmaceutical interest.
On the other hand, transgenic chickens have been successfully developed and their proteins have already been approved by the FDA and EMA authorities. In the case of an optimal protein tested in vitro, transgenic chickens could be developed as a scale production system.
We are interested in establishing cooperation with research groups experts in genetic constructions and companies interested in protein production.
The Animal Reproduction department belongs to the National Center of the CSIC (The Spanish National Research Council), INIA, which is a reference institute in agri-food and forestry science and technology.
Since the sixties it has been dedicated to research, development and innovation in animal reproduction.
