1. Novel Technologies for Prevention, Detection, Assessment and Management of Animal Health and Welfare
Different technologies for detection, assessment of farm animal welfare. Positive AW, enrichment, behaviour, sensors, heat stress, climate change, AW during transport & slaughter, AW in intensive or extensive/organic farming systems. The university has chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, genetics, mycotoxins, feed & food, and other laboratories. We have access to different farm animal species - cattle (dairy and beef), pigs, sheep, goats, poultry, horse, freshwater fish; including native breeds of most animals. We have installed closed-loop water recirculation system that is used in catfish farming.
The Veterinary Academy at Lithuanian University of Health Sciences is the only University in Lithuania training veterinary doctors and husbandry technologists. VA carry fundamental, applied scientific research, experimental development, other scientific activity in fields of animal healthcare, diagnostics and welfare, food science and animal husbandry. Veterinary Academy consist of two faculties – Veterinary medicine and Animal Science. Departments: Anatomy and Physiology, Veterinary Pathobiology, Food Safety and Quality. Besides there are Institute of Animal Science, Large animal clinic, Small animal clinic, university farms (dairy and beef cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, geese).
