1. Novel Technologies for Prevention, Detection, Assessment and Management of Animal Health and Welfare
Escherichia coli of the avian pathogenic pathotype (APEC) is the cause of different disease manifestations in poultry collectively referred to as colibacillosis. The production of meat chicken and table eggs is increasingly affected by diseases caused by APEC, compromising economy, as well as animal health and welfare. A large genetic overlap between certain APEC and certain human ExPEC including nearly identical strains have documented that certain ExPEC may have the potential to cause diseases in both humans and chicken. We are experts in analyzing APEC by whole genomic sequencing and wants to collaborate on a general database with public access to archive and also predict and analyse persistent and long term outbreaks.
The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Our research is dealing with E. coli and other bacteria of veterinary importance.
