OO4. To develop procedures, methodologies and tools to support the monitoring of animal welfare.
1. Animal Welfare
We are looking to join a consortium requiring expertise in fish behavior modelling. We are developing models to interpret behavioral welfare of farmed fish by using an already collected vast telemetry dataset. We are interested in further developing these models as an early warning system in fish farming, and in the assessment of behavioral welfare indicators, e.g. by using the Qualitative Behavior Assessment (QBA) method, which is a “whole animal welfare” assessment method. We can share expertise in aquaculture, animal welfare science and mathematical / machine learning modelling.
The goal of the Natural Resources Institute Finland is to promote the sustainable use of natural resources and improve the welfare of the environment, people and society. We offer research-based solutions and services that support business activities based on renewable natural resources and decision-making in society. We operate in international cooperation networks with the aim of becoming Europe's leading bioeconomy expert. As a statutory work, we are responsible for, among other things, the inventory of Finland's forest resources and food and natural resource statistics as one of Finland's four statistical authorities. Our multidisciplinary research environment includes unique infrastructures, experimental stations and well-equipped laboratories.
