2. Prevention and Control
At CTAQUA we have ample experience and interest in disease prevention. We have developed several infection models and maintain a well-established and still growing biobank of pathogen strains (currently > 85 strains) and looking for means to expand this knowledge and look for new applications. We are very interested in joining a consortium under the Topic 2: Prevention & Control in one of the two following core actions: OO7-2 (developing and using tools/models (e.g., experimental farm setups, in vivo/in vitro/in silico models) to test the safety and performance of new interventions and delivery approaches; or OO7-3 working closely with industry to develop or improve interventions and get an initial proof of concept, including showing response and efficacy in the target species in a representative small-scale model (TRL 3–4).
CTAQUA (Aquaculture Technology Centre; Spain) is an independent NGO focused on aquaculture and seafood. Research is focused on animal nutrition and wellbeing, species diversification, sustainable aquaculture (incl. IMTA, seaweeds, etc.) and seafood processing and transformation. Installations include ample facilities for fish trials (several recirculatory systems, pathology laboratory, biobank of pathogen strains of major fish pathogens, equipment detection of immune system parameters and qPCR for gene expression analyses, etc.), feed extrusor for preparation of experimental feed diets (5 – 500 kg amount), an indoor and outdoor seaweed cultivation facility, general laboratory facilities and a food transformation facility. CTAQUA has participated in European (FP7, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, Interreg) and national projects (notably, the project Fishealth: New integrated tools and platforms for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases in aquaculture), as beneficiary, WP lead (BBI JU H2020 project BIOSEA, H Europe project NOVAFOODIES) and project leader (Interreg projects INTEGRATE-IMTA and AQUAFISH0.0).
