Muğla Province is one of Türkiye’s leading centers for inland aquaculture. Inland aquaculture production (trout) amounts to 25,000 tons, representing approximately 15% of the total production. In particular, farming of Oncorhynchus mykiss is concentrated in the Seydikemer–Eşen Basin and in reservoirs located in Dalaman. A significant share of Türkiye’s trout exports is supplied from our province.
The Muğla Trout Farmers’ Association, operating in the Eşen Basin, has 72 members, 91 production facilities, and an annual production capacity of 19,630 tons. In collaboration with the Muğla Trout Producers’ Association, our Provincial Directorate, and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, a project was conducted to develop a Disease Mapping Study of Rainbow Trout Enterprises. The causes of fry mortality were investigated, and the final report identified fry losses of up to 70%, primarily due to fish diseases.
Within this basin, we are currently seeking project partners under the EU4AnimalHealth and Welfare (EUPAHW) programme to collaborate on Preventive Fish Health Management.
