We are a team specialized in practical, applied science in cattle and calf production systems. Our work focuses on assessing and improving animal welfare and animal health through hands-on research, field measurements, and close collaboration with the dairy sector. With extensive experience in both experimental and commercial farm settings, we are well equipped to translate scientific insights into practical solutions.
At our university, we manage two dedicated cattle herds that provide unique research opportunities. One is a high-tech herd, equipped with advanced sensor systems and precision livestock technologies, enabling detailed monitoring of behavior, health, and performance. The other is an organic herd, allowing us to study animal welfare and health under organic management conditions and compare different production systems.
In addition, we maintain strong partnerships with dairy farms across the Netherlands. These collaborations give us direct access to commercial farming environments and ensure that our research remains relevant and applicable in practice.
For this project, we would like to conduct comprehensive assessments of animal welfare and animal health. We are also eager to test new insights and innovative approaches on farms, evaluating their impact on quality, feasibility, and practical implementation under real-life conditions.
